Members in the Chess News_2010
I thought I should belatedly report on members of the Ryde Eastwood Leagues Club Chess Club endeavours in the arena of chess in 2010. We had the biggest tournament in 2010, the Australian Championships at Norths. We had two club members who played in the Australian Major. Anton Smirnov who came joint 61th with 6.5/11; (Of course Anton is also claimed by Norths Chess Club). Dylan Siow-Lee finished joint 45th with 5.5/11 out of a field of 96th.
In the Australian Minor, Vince Chiara, Greig Edwards and Jasper Hong played. Vince was joint 15th with 6/11 while Grieg managed 5/11 coming 26th out of a field of 42. Jasper came joint 37th with 4/11 points.

Just two days ago, three present club members competed in the NSW Australia Day Weekender at Norths: Greig Edwards, Dylan Siow-Lee and Robert Watson (who rejoinded the club after 18 years; previously he was with the Eastwood Chess Club). Rob showed he is slowly regaining his form sharing in the 3rd prize in the rating division U1600-1400 with 3.5/7. Greig Edwards almost repeated his 2009 feat sharing in the rating prize in division U1250 with 3/7 (check last year's blog). Dylan Siow-Lee only managed 2.5/7 including a last round loss to Rob.
A former member, Steven Liu, shared in the 2nd prize in rating division U1800-1600 with a score of 4.5/7.
Oh, and btw, IM George Xie won the event with a perfect score of 7/7 continuing his awesome form from the Australian Championships.
